Aperçu sur la Culture des Pommiers et la Manipulation du Cidre (1806 & 1813)
This, the most important treatise on cider making in Jersey, was written by the Rev. François Le Couteur, Rector of Grouville (1744-1808). The first edition was published in 1801 followed by an enlarged edition in 1806. In 1808 a further enlarged edition was published posthumously in English, reprinted in 1813. Both the final French and the final English editions have been digitised here.
The book is of great value to those wishing to make cider in the traditional Jersey way and in recent years Le Couteur's practise was followed strictly by the members of the Jersey Cider Orchard Trust in their trials with Jersey Cider apple varieties.
