Journal de Daniel Messervy 1769 - 1772

This is an important primary source for the riot and near rebellion in Jersey in 1769, and its aftermath. It covers the period September 1769 – July 1772 and the appendix contains transcriptions of official documents. Messervy (1721-1775) was a Jurat of the Royal Court from 1754-1770 and, as such, was close to the event that he describes. An article about these events, by A. C. Saunders, is to be found in the Bulletin of the Société Jersiaise: Vol. 13 (1937) pp. 247-258.
