Lettres Closes

The Lettres Closes contain extracts relating to the Channel Islands taken from the Royal close letters now held at the National Archives in London. They begin during the reign of King John, the first extract being from 1205, a year after the loss of Normandy. The final extract is dated 1321. They are the official, but private, letters from the King to his officers, representatives and subjects. They contain much information on a wide variety of subjects.
