Pigs In Hiding - By Jane Aubin

This talk explores the subject of pig rearing in Jersey during the German Occupation (1940–1945). Since 2015, Jane has been conducting in-depth research into the island's pigsties, documenting surviving structures and identifying those lost to time. Her interest in this topic began decades ago and has since grown to include the collection of oral histories from local farming families, many of whom lived through the Occupation or inherited stories from that time. Jane’s presentation combines these personal recollections with historical context to examine how pigs were kept, the challenges of food production, and the influence of both local and German authorities on agricultural practices during the war years.

Jèrriais translations within the introduction and outro of the video were provided by Geraint Jennings.
